The Devil's Data Dictionary – Book Interview

DDD cover

In this modern homage to Ambrose Bierce, Sterne tucks his tongue firmly in cheek and lets loose on an industry only Dilbert could love.

With a mix of wry humor and outlandish sarcasm Sterne hits the datarati upside the head with a well-worn humerus bone and puts the pun in pundit.

Lavishly illustrated by award-winning illustrator, Yevgenia Nayberg.

If Your Website Is NOT Mobile Friendly Google WILL Penalise You

Google Launches Mobile-Friendly Update in May.

Google Mobile Friendly Algorithm Update

Google Mobile Friendly Algorithm Update

Google recently let everyone now that it will be updating its Mobile-Friendly algorithm, which they launched in April 2015, in May 2016, according to their Webmasters Blog. That's only a few days away!

If Your Website is NOT Mobile Optimised You ARE in Trouble!

At the beginning of May, Google will be rolling out its algorithm update to mobile search results, which means that websites that are already mobile friendly will receive an extra “boost” in rankings over websites that are not.

If your website is already mobile-friendly, you will not be affected by this update. If you are not sure whether your website is mobile-friendly or not, you can check out Google's Mobile-Friendly Test and the Webmaster Mobile Guide, both of which provide guidance on how to improve your mobile site.

You may not think this important, but think again. This is EXTREMELY important for business owners. Google has been warning people about this for just over a year. Last year, April 21 2015, Google launched Mobilegeddon. This is where Google warned people that they needed a mobile-friendly website. If they didn't have a mobile optimised website they would pay! This is one of the very few times that Google tells us that if you don't do this, Google is going to penalise you.

Mobile Friendly vs Non Mobile-Optimised

Mobile Friendly vs Non Mobile Optimised

NON Mobile Optimised Websites Have Had Their Day

However, Google eased back, as there were millions, if not billions of websites that were not optimised for mobile and people did not heed Google's threat. So, Mobilegeddon did not quite turn out as everyone thought it would.

BUT now, Google has announced that they will be updating their mobile-friendly search algorithm in May. This time it is more likely to affect business owners.

You, as a business owner, may or may not be aware that there is actually two searches engines – one is a mobile search engine and the other is a desktop search engine. Many business owners are unaware of this.

So what, I hear you say. Here is the thing, mobile searches has over taken desktop searches at the rate of 66% of all searches come from mobile devices!

This is a little more serious. As a business owner who doesn't have a mobile-friendly website could loose 66% of their online traffic, especially if they are a service based business, such as a plumber, locksmith etc. This could devastate a business if they loose 66% of their traffic.

If they were on Page 1 of Google for their particular market, they are going to just disappear.

Another little fact, about mobile search overtaking desktop search, is that people using mobile devices share at a rate of 70% more than people on desktop. This means when someone finds a piece of engaging content they are sharing it more, which in turn promotes your business.
